The Forty or Four Hundred Winks

This release saw the first break in my artwork since my debut, “Windchimes”. In earlier drafts, while I had phased out the black border and overall framing of those first releases, I still clung on to certain elements. I attempted to use the same vinyl ring-wear imprint as before, but found the result too ‘grungy’. I proceeded to experiment with text alignment, whether I would use black and white, and overall texture, until I at last settled on the more polished final design. Being that my photography has always been primarily concerned with geometry, I found that too much texture detracted from the shapes and angles of the image.

I enjoy designing rear covers for my singles, as I really got into music through record collecting. This is also why I insist on having B-sides when the practice has otherwise been phased out. It is an excuse to further explore and define the aesthetics of the track, and it gives me additional content to post on social media to promote the release.
