As I was working on these “Front Matter” releases around the time of my birthday, I asked my artist friend if her birthday gift to me could be some simple, abstract line drawings. My idea was to use them in the lyric booklet for the CD. However, I soon realised that they would be perfect for the single artwork also. Given the rustic simplicity of the album artwork itself, I wanted single artwork that was more ornate and exciting.

The biggest challenge here was ensuring the text was legible, despite how busy the design was. This entailed subtle stroke effects and some embossing on the text to give the writing the texture it needed to stand out. In retrospect, I would probably now darken the background slightly to introduce more depth, as the result was still too busy.
